Viva Vigan: Festival of the Arts

Viva Vigan Festival of the Arts is being celebrated every first week of May. It was started in 1993 by the Save Vigan Ancestral Homes Association, Inc. to promote awareness of the value of the historic town, which was hoped to strengthen resolve to preserve and protect this heritage site. It is a festival promoting the culture, arts and tradition of the Ilocano people living in the historic town of Vigan, and to the whole Ilocandia.

The festival starts on May 1, when the whole country celebrates Labor Day and Vigan remembers its own Isabelo de los Reyes, who founded the country’s first federation of labor. The catholic faithful also remembers on this day St. Joseph, patron saint of workers. The first day of the festival is followed by the Binatbatan Festival which includes and highlights the street dancing competition. Binatbatan dancing portrays the Vigan’s abel Iloco craft. The dance depicts how cotton pods are beaten with bamboo sticks to release the cotton fluff called batbat from its seed. This festival was started in 2002 to showcase this traditional weaving craft that is said to predate the arrival of the Spaniards.

On the 3rd of May, the Feast of Apo Sto. Cristo Milagroso is observed with a mass at the Simbaan a Basiit. This is a most significant religious celebration in Vigan due to the many instances that the city was said to be saved by the Apo. Another significant festival within the Viva Vigan festival is the Karbo Festival, which was began in 2005. It’s aimed at giving importance to the people behind Vigan’s agricultural industry and their contribution. The name of the festival was taken from the words carabao, the Philippine water buffalo used for farming, and bokel or seeds. During this day, gaily painted carabaos are paraded and children show their artistic creations that make use of seeds.

The traditional way of celebrating this festival came back, after 2 years of not having this occasion because of the pandemic. Truly, Vigan has a rich culture, tradition and history which is celebrated and shown to the nation and world. Viva Vigan Binatbatan Festival! Agbiag BigueΓ±o, Viva San Pablo!

"a moment to remember"

And now, our grade 10 journey is going to end in a few days, which means, junior high school life comes to an end too. It's been a wonderful moment, our beloved junior high school life. Learning, discoveries, improvements, and maturity throughout this phase of life. During the 4th quarter, we were able to have a chance to experience face to face learning again after 2 years of having distance learning. We were able to get that special experience and a wonderful moment for a short time. I was able to enjoy and appreciate the courage, strength and guidance of our teachers during this last quarter. The laughs, stories and short memories we made during this short time moment will truly and forever be with us. We were able to perform and make our own Frontpage during the 4th quarter in ICT with the guidance of our teacher, I was able to enjoy doing it, though we shared many laughs and smiles when we are creating our own front pages. This is it, the last quarter in 10th grade, the last c...

“To Learn: Overcome and Try"

3 rd quarter is coming to end, time really moves so fast. One more quarter to finish and my Grade 10 journey will going to end already. Another learning experiences, challenges and discoveries.   The feeling that I have felt during the 3 rd quarter is just incomparable from the other quarter’s that had passed. I felt so pressured because there are too many task and works to do, there are times that the given task is not what I am good at doing. I’m so down reading the number of task given in every subjects, I’m so pressured, but I pushed myself despite the pressure and stress I am feeling. I conquer my pressure, I tried my best in doing every task given even though some of them are not what I am good at. I can still say that I did well during 3 rd quarter, despite the problems and emotional days that I had experienced.               Life is all about learning, and for you to learn more, you need to over...

"Doing Better, Improving"

Second quarter is already coming to end, the time moves so fast. It feels like first quarter just ended last week. Its been a full of learnings and new discoveries. I became too relaxed last first quarter to the point that I almost got failed grades. But I used it as a motivation to do better and to improve myself. And I think I've done much better during this quarter and I'm so proud of myself for that.    I did encounter the same problems from last quarter. There are times that I don’t understand some parts of the concept notes and some instructions given by our teachers. There are also times when I feel exhausted while reading the concept notes and doing my school works. But I overcome these challenges through asking teachers and classmates about something that is not clear to me, by having time management and taking a rest when I feel exhausted.    Moving on, I will continue doing my best with my academics. Its tiring and hard but I know its part of ...
